受争議的歐巴馬的英語

This is how President Obama pronounces 'GIF' 這是歐巴馬對字母縮略詞 “GIF”的讀法

Obama goes all in for the hard 'G'-歐巴馬贊成把G重讀成「格」而不是『吉』

President Barack Obama took sides on one of the most divisive debates in the history of the English language this week by declaring that the word “GIF” — an acronym for Graphics Interchange Format —is pronounced with a hard “G” sound,” as one would pronounce “gift,”  or the “G” in “Benghazi.”

本周歐巴馬總統對英文語言史上最具分岐的争辯之一偏袒一邊,即把 “GIF” 讀成如giftgGIF是『圖表互換檔』-被讀成重音的 “G”() 聲,就像我們讀”gift”(禮物) ”gaffe” (過失) ”Benghazi” (利比亞大都市) 等字中的g的發音

The president announced his decision during a meeting with Tumblr CEO David Karp at the White House on Tuesday.

總統在與TumblrCEO David Karp星期二在白宮開會中宣告他的讀音決定

"That is my official position,” Obama said, before posing for a GIF with Karp, who was in Washington to host
a discussion on student loan reform. “I pondered it a long time."

『那是我的正式立塲』,歐巴馬說,在一項和Karp圖表互換檔擺出姿勢之前,Karp-Tumblr() 之執行長』是在華府主持有關改進學生貸款的一項討論會。『此事-這樣的發音我仔細思考了很久』。

The word’s pronunciation has been a point of contention for years. In 2013, the man who invented GIFs, Steve Wilhite, said the word should be pronounced "jif," although his announcement did little to quell the linguistic debate. (Because honestly, who pronounces “graphic” as “jraphic”?)

全世界對此字的發音已被争論了好多年。在2013年發明GiF的人-Steve Wilhite說,『此字應發音為’jif’dzIf」,雖然他的宣告並不太抑制語言學的辯論。(但坦白說,有人會把”graphic”(圖表) 這個字讀成「dzrafIk」嗎?)

Obama’s decision will be unlikely to end the dispute, however, and his action could embolden Republicans to start calling them “JIFs,” if recent divisions in Washington are any indication, just because he says it the other way.

儘管如此,歐巴馬決定這樣讀此字將不可能終止這項争辯,如果正因為他的另類讀法顯示出,最近在華府的不同發音,那麼如此一來更使共和黨員壯膽地開始將它們讀為「JIFs」。

It remains unclear how this debate will shake out in the upcoming 2016 presidential race. Twitter messages to possible candidates
former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie about how they pronounce “GIF” were not immediately returned on Friday.

a.     g, gain (得到) guts(魄力) Googlegout (鍳賞力)

b.    dz, ginger () messenger (信差) gigantic (巨大的) Kinsinger() ,台灣唸季辛吉,大陸唸季辛格

c.      z,這是法文的讀音,如garage (車庫) massage (按摩) mirage (海市蜃樓)
