Swapping one word for another could make all the difference in how you approach your goals.
That's according to Bernard Roth, a professor of engineering at Stanford and the academic director of Stanford's Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, the d.school.
In his new book, "The Achievement Habit," Roth suggests several linguistic tweaks that can make you more successful. Here are two of the easiest:
1. Swap 'but' for 'and'-用and代替but
You might be tempted to say, "I want to go to the movies, but I have work to do."
Instead, Roth suggests saying, "I want to go to the movies, and I have work to do."
He writes: "When you use the word but, you create a conflict (and sometimes a reason) for yourself that does not really exist." In other words, it's possible to go to the movies as well as do your work — you just need to find a solution.
Meanwhile, when you use the word and, "your brain gets to consider how it can deal with both parts of the sentence," Roth writes. Maybe you'll see a shorter movie; maybe you'll delegate some of your work.
2. Swap 'have to' for 'want to': 改have to為want to
Roth recommends a simple exercise: The next few times you say "I have to" in your mind, change have to want.
"This exercise is very effective in getting people to realize that what they do in their lives — even the things they find unpleasant — are in fact what they have chosen," he says.
For example, one of Roth's students felt he had to take the math courses required for his graduate program, even though he hated them. At some point after completing the exercise, he realized that he really did want to take the classes because the benefit of completing the requirement outweighed the discomfort of sitting through classes he didn't enjoy.
Both of these tweaks are based on a key component of a problem-solving strategy called "design thinking."(設計思考) When you employ this strategy, you try to challenge your automatic thinking and see things as they really are.
And when you experiment with different language, you may realize that a problem isn't as unsolvable as it seems, and that you have more control over your life than you previously believed.

-To give or not to give; that is the question.

有了愛情,就會對愛情放不下;
有了事業,就會對事業放不下;
有了金錢,就會對金錢放不下;

(The significance of a Team)

Ten of Most Famous Sayings of the Jewish People

Never get upset when you are disturbed at two o’clock in the morning by your neighbor’s playing the piano. You could wake him up at four, telling him that you really appreciate his playing.

西諺, “Do not get mad; get even.”

If you keep waiting, those things to be happening only make you grow old.

(Time and tide wait for no men.)

True friendship does not mean endless bull sessions. It rather means even sheer silence won’t embarrass good friends.

【評】:Idle talking is insincere. Sincerity between friends is above everything else.

Time is a master healing spiritual wounds; it is by no means an expert in solving problems.

Time makes people forget a bitter remembrance, but it never solves the problem at all, because it still exists. We’d better not avoid the problem, but face it and solve it.

We would rather regret what we have done than repent of what we have not done.

【評】:中國人說,『前事不忘,後事之師』-“Experience is the best teacher.” I have done my best at least。

Ten of Most Famous Sayings of the Jewish People

A glass of clear water will become tainted because of a drop of soiled water; a glass of soiled water will not become clear and transparent because of a drop of clear water.

(Being flawless is hardly acquired)

There are three things in the world that cannot be deprived of: one is food digested; another is dreams buried in the heart; the third is the books read.

【評】:英國哲學家Francis Bacon說;書有三種,some books are to be chewed; others are to be swallowed; and the rest are to be digested.

Horse are prone to lose balance on soft and loose ground; people are apt to be cheated by smooth and sweet language.
Man needs challenge in life.

In the world there is no difference between tragedy and comedy. If you could manage to get out of a tragedy, it is comedy. If you keeps indulging in a comedy, then it will be a tragedy.

If you do not do some reading, you are no more than a messenger travelling thousands of miles for others.
