「人間歲月閒難得，天下知交老更親」。

以上兩句乃老生常談，雖無押韻，但讀來順口。是適合對聨的句子。人間對天下，一下一上；歲月對知交，前者指時間，後者指人。閒，名詞作動詞「得」之受詞。第二句的「老」与「親」均有形容動詞之作用。

兩句之漢譯不難，因白話意義很濃。若譯成英文：

1)  人間可譯為life，歲月，即時間= time，合譯為in life time。有一句「歲月不待人」，可譯作：Time and tide wait for no men.

2)     「閒」，= free time= spare time= leisure hours。

3)     「難得」，一為副詞，一為動詞。簡譯為hard to get (obtain, acquire…) 。更進一步可譯為：not easily acquired.

4)     「天下」= in the world, 或on earth.

5)     「知交」= close friends= bosom friends

6)     「老」= when getting older

7)     「親」= closer, 或more affectionate

年老人生三寶：老伴、老本及老友。

全句英譯：

Spare time is hard to get in life.

In this world, the older we are, the closer and the more affectionate our bosom acquaintances will become.
