1931年首創於德國Stuttgart市。創立人：Ferdinand Porsche，他於1939年首創第一台金亀車VW(Volkswagen), 又稱國民車。VW的外形和引擎設計影响Porsche很大，迄今两種車的

引擎仍在車後(rear-engine)。二戰期间，創立人設計了有名的老虎戰車，大戰後因此以戰犯被關20個月。美國和日本車系款式，常以動物名稱命名，保時捷則以数字(番号)。2011年和VW兩公司合併，它以跑車系列聞名，可貴的是，它不但是歐美年青人喜歡，更是老紳士的最愛。
